Santa Rosa de Pelequen

The 6 of August of 1881 the church of Santa Rosa was ready to receive the image and the 10 of August Viceparroquia of Pelequén is created. The 30 of August of 1881, the solemn transfer of the image was carried out from the inner clan of the parochial church of Malloa, to the new church of Pelequén, in the middle of popular fervor.

The 8 of February of 1897 Don Mariano Casanova created the Parish of Pelequén. That first temple was totally destroyed by the earthquake of the 16 of August of 1906 then rose a second temple but it was not so solid and the earthquake of the 2 of December of 1928 left it in very bad conditions. Later, it was fitted out the new temple of three ample large halls, a mixed romantic gothic. It was inaugurated the 29 of August of 1929, the unexisted towers were inaugurated in 1953.

In this temple the religious devotion is concentrated, through offers and masses. The faithful people concur to the sanctuary from one week before and one week after the festivity that is annually celebrated the day 30 of August.

It is located in Santa Galician Rosa 595 corner Gallegos.

In order to arrive at the Sanctuary Santa Rosa from Lima from Santiago, in mile 73,9 by the Pan-American South, you will begin to see great amount of positions of fresh fruit and sale of brooms, artisan tradition arisen with the plantations from curagüilla in this zone whose seeds also are used like food of birds.

In mile 76, there is crossing to the left to Pelequén, where it is located the beautiful Church and Sanctuary of Santa Rosa of Lima. It is the place in which a great celebration with pilgrimage is celebrated the 30 of August. Santa Rosa was canonized in century XVII, becoming first Santa born in America and named Pattern of America and the Philippine islands. There are masses in summer, Saturday at 20 hours, Sunday and festive at 9 and 11 hours; in winter, Saturday at l9 hours, Sunday and festive at 9 and 11 hours. The church is open throughout the day.

Pelequén, name that means space or extension of mud, constituted as a place of importance by being terminal of the branch the Goats of the railroad, at the moment disappeared and it is an agricultural product deposit of the zone.

Following by the Pan-American, near 0.6 miles to the south, it is the Narrowness of Pelequén (Angostura de Pelequén), where you will see the pink stone quarries of Pelequén, material that was used in the buildings and monuments of Santiago.
