The stroll from Santiago towards Tiltil and Caleu is a route by a solitary way between beautiful landscapes and old train stations, visiting the place where Manuel Rodriguez died, to finish in a charming town in the side of the mountain range of the Coast.
With the exhaustion of the mineral, its population diminished considerably. Today, Tiltil is a colorful town, with a beautiful square. Its church, declared national monument, was constructed to beginnings of XVIII century, lodged the body of Manuel Rodriguez until its transfer to Santiago. This way it passes the way that unites Santiago and Limache through the Dormida slope.
Leave Tiltil, in km 58 in north direction by the debris way and raise a small hill; from the top it will see the town in all its extension. The way goes by a narrow valley between the mountain range of the Coast and matting, in km 66 that is water-drainage of Rungue Dam. Some yards behind it leave a way to the left, which go by a hill with a beautiful Vista of the valley, to arrive in km 11 to Caleu, which means to change of condition, and is to an altitude of 3.937,01 ft. This old “town of Indians”, irregular layout and singular beauty, also lived a period on prosperity due to the gold mines of its environs. At the present time, the population of Caleu is dedicates to agricultural and forest tasks, like the extraction of compost and the harvesting of dihüeñes.
In order to return, go hilldown and in the end turns to the left by village of Rungue direction. There it takes the Pan-American Highway in the Santiago direction.
