Concepción was founded in 1550 in the place in where today is the city of Penco (ciudad de Penco); it was the second city of importance in Chile during the Spanish colonization. Between 1565 and 1573, it was the Headquarter of the Real Hearing and political capital, military and administrative of the Post of Captain-General of Chile.

The city of Lota was founded by the Spanish Governor Angel of Peredo in 1662, and the 5 of January of 1875 is conferred to Lota the title of city. In 1852, Matías Cousiño acquires lands where the carboniferous company rose.

The town of Arauco was founded in 1555 by Pedro of Valdivia and transferred to its present location in 1590, on the foot of the hill Colo Colo. Destroyed, rebuilt, and repopulated infinity of times, it was always a military outpost of Concepción. In 1845 it was visited by Ignacio Domeyko, who found vestiges of the old outpost of the denominated San Felipe of Arauco and a stone shield of Leon of Castilla.
