Chiu Chiu with a population of 322 inhabitants, has a clean layout, a well-taken care restored plaza and the most beautiful church of the Loa. Chiu Chiu is located before the confluence of the rivers Salado and Loa in an altitude of 8.284,12 feet.

The Church of San Francisco, is one of Chiu Chiu’s highlights and has been declared National Monument. Features walls made of adobe (mud/straw) 47,24 inches thick and roof with beam of chañar wood united with ties of leather. The ceiling is made of cactus small boards.
The church is one of a most beautiful of Chile, revealing own stylistic robustness of the Atacameña culture. On its interior conserves a singular picture of painted Christ by both faces and crucifix with folding arms to be transported in procession.

There is a bell with Dutch inscription, of unknown origin. An outer perimeter wall is forming yards around the church that were occupied like cemetery.

Do not damage this valuable historical testimony. For visits, the schedule is from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 14pm and 16 to 19 hours.
