Negro Francisco Lagoon is located in Nevado Tres Cruces National Park

Negro Francisco Lagoon is placed in the Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, 130.5 miles north east from Copiapó at 4126 meters above sea level. Negro Francisco Lagoon basin’s has a surface of 546,8 m2 and it is fed by a small river called Astaburuaga. It is inhabited by flocks of parinas or flamingos, vicuñas, guanacos, taguas and wild ducks. In terms of vegetation, it is andean with fertile lowlands and wetlands.

From San Francisco Border Office, through the north from Maricunga’s salt flat, keep surrounding the salt flat and then turn right at the detour that enters to Cienaga Redonda canyon, where the goldmine Marte- which was paralyzed in 1991.

The road borders the ground borders of Copiapo’s volcano, 6.052 meters high and finally go down by Astaburuaga river to reach – 59 miles- the lagoon.
