This beautiful natural monument is placed near the town of Putre on the North of Chile , in the province of Parinacota, it stands 4,200 meters above sea level. It has a surface of 11,298 hectares, including salt flat areas and high ecosystems.

The Salt Flat of Surire Natural Monument it is a zone with thermical fluctuation, from -15ºC in the winter nights and 5ºC in the day. It presents an average annual precipitation of 250 mm and average annual temperatures of between -5ºC and 5ºC.

The Salt flat of Surire Natural Monument, because of its extensive surface, represents a very majestic place. Its saline components impress an intense white color which makes it strongly contrast with the blue of its slight waters lagoons.

The flamingos, out of the six species that exist around the world inhabit this area. It is remarkable the fact that the Salt flat of Surire Natural Monument constitutes a reproduction environment for the flamingos. The usual contact is mainly visual, flamingos feeding themselves and fluttering around over the lagoons, accompanied by the numerous groups of vicuñas and common rheas (ñandú, suri) in the pampa represents a great tourist attractive.

The presence of hot springs in the Salt flat of Surire Natural Monument is other attactive feature which makes it a great place for outdoor recreation and resting.

In the Polloquere Hot Springs (Termas de Polloquere) waters gush forth to 66ºC, producing a lagoon in the saline crust of the salt flat, where taking a bath is fantastic. By the lagoon there are two picnic sites.
