The Bellas Artes National Museum is located in downtown Santiago, next to Forestal Park.

The Bellas Artes National Museum is located in downtown Santiago, next to Forestal Park.

It was founded in September 18th of 1880 and is the oldest art museum of Latin America. The present building where there are its offices dates from 1910 and it is located in the interior of the Forestal Park, one of the few green lungs of downtown Santiago.

The museum exhibits a set of collections of paintings, sculptures and graph, those that reunite approximately 5,600 original works of the most important authors of our country and the world.

The visitors have access to services like Library and Information center, Store and bookstore of the Bellas Artes National Museum,

This museum counts with guided visits that have a minimum duration of 45 minutes and a maximum of 60. The permanent collection of painting and Chilean sculpture can be visited or any transitory or traveling exhibition that at the moment of the route are in the museum.

The construction of the Palacio de Bellas Artes was initiated in the first years of XX century as museum and school of Fine Arts. In fact, it was the first building in Latin America raised specifically for such functions. Designed in French neoclassic style by the architect Emilio Jecquier, it was inaugurated September 18th of 1910, adding it to the centenary of National Independence festivities. The palace has two main entrances; the one of the east, that enters the Bellas artes National Museum and the one of the west that gives access to the  Contemporary Art Museum.

In the Matta Room, the Chile Room and in the great central hall, a nourished annual program of temporary samples of national and international character take place. All the year is open, from Tuesday to Sunday of 10 to 19 hours –

The schedule attention of the museum in winter time (April 1st to November 30th ) is of Tuesday to Saturday between 10:00 and 19:00 hours. Sundays is from 10:00 to 18:00 hours. In summer time ( December 1st to March 31st) of Tuesday to Saturday between 11:00 and 20:00 hours. Sundays is from 11:00 to 19:00 hours. It is open all year except in January 1st; Good Friday; the 1st of May; September 18th; November 1st and 25th of December. Previous inscription are required for guided visits. The schedule of the specialized Library is of Tuesday to Friday from 14 to 17:45 hours. The Educative department is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 13:30 and from 15 to 18:30 hours. The general entrance is of $600, students and elderly people $300, free entrance for minors of 8 years.
