Putaendo has 7.214 inhabitants and an altitude of 2.667,32 ft, is located 86 kms from Santiago. Is an old town of Indians that attracted Spanish population by the discovered of gold mines in the environs in the middle of the XVIII century. Little by little its center of population was formed and the church of San Antonio was constructed. In March 20 of 1831, the Assembly of Aconcagua granted to Putaendo the title of villa.

The layout of the town of Putaendo extends longitudinally from the south to north and its historical center has been declared Typical Zone. Towards the south it is the area of commerce, structured in form of Long Street, with facades of mud and strew of XVIII and XIX centuries. In its North end it is the square, with great trees. In its flanks are located the public buildings and the Church of San Antonio. Built it between 1862 and 1893 with a combination of styles neoclassic and neo gothic. In its interior of three naves there is a Christ of XVIII century, of baroque style. There are masses Tuesday to Friday at 19 hours, Saturday at 18:30 hours, Sunday and festive at 12 hours.

In front of the church, in Bulnes street 55, are the well-known weavers to crochet. Cross the town of Putaendo in car; it will appreciate its small houses of mud and strew of continuous facade, painted with showy colors. Know the Cervantes Theater, declared national monument, and the great mural in its facade called Deep Root, work of grouped local artists in the Rayoceronte factory, authors, in addition, of other paintings murals characteristic of Putaendo. Visit the Gangways of Juan Rosas, one old colonial large house surrounded by gardens with fruit trees and flower that works like art gallery. It presents a permanent exhibition of Raul Pizarra, around the thematic of the Valley of Putaendo. For visits, the schedule is Monday to Sunday of 9 to 20 hours, the entrance is gratuitous. Also it can visit in Putaendo the sculptures Park Cemetery of Carts, located to 0,62 miles of the town, that depends on the Social Organization of equal name, created officially in January of 2001. The sculptures Park Cemetery of Carts was created by the sculptor Ricardo Vivar Lepe. Is located in an esplanade of 15 hectares in the El Llano hill, where is distributed a great number of sculptures of carts previously intervened in artistic road. In February the International Encounter of sculptures is made, where it is possible to be seen working of national and foreign artists and to enjoy other cultural and artistic events. The access to the sculptures park Cemetery of Carts is free, to visit throughout the year.

In Putaendo it is possible to enjoy exquisite rack and poured of pork, prepared with local recipes in the Chancherías Santa Clara, huaso Olguín and Esperanza. The Palm is well-known by its individual coil and “the canelita”, drink with chacolí, brandy and cinnamon; it counts with orchestra in summer season. Other restaurants in the area of Putaendo are; Lilianett international food and drinks; El Remanso, Highway San Martin 3821; La Rosa Chilena and Social Club, with Chilean typical food and liquors; Hostelry La Estancia offers, in addition, lodging.

Between the main events of Putaendo in February is celebrate the Carnival of Chaya in the Square of Arms. In March the Putaendina Week is celebrated, with sport, artistic and cultural activities (March 20 is the anniversary of Putaendo). Between main tours and excursions that can be made in Putaendo, are the rent of horses and service of guide, for the Footpath of Chile, to the Valley of Aconcagua and the environs.

Leave to the square by a street towards the north that it signalizes to Alicahue. Advance 4,35 miles until the crossing that takes to Corners de Guzmán, where it works a Gallery and Art Factory, with permanent exhibitions and sale of souvenirs and cacti. This factory has made the existing murals in Putaendo, including the one of the Cervantes Theater. The colorful changes: observe how the green thing is transformed into ocher. Soon it will cross a Putaendo river. In km 10 it will arrive at the property of the Vicuña that was formed in 1790.
