Nahuelbuta National Park extends in 16,88 acres located 21,75 miles from the city of Angol, in the highest sector of the Mountain range of Nahuelbuta, by the white fertile valleys road. The trip takes only 1 hour and until reaching the park entrance is all rubble road. It is accessed easily on summer and the rest of the year only vehicles of double traction (Category F see car rental) can give you a safe journey, although previous consultation to the Tourism Office of the area is advisable.
Nahuelbuta National Park counts with several attractive sites among which stands out the Stone of the Eagle, natural viewpoint that allows to watch the Pacific Ocean and the Mountain range of the Coast; The Peat bogs (area of scientific interest) where stand out insectivorous vegetation; the Valley of Pehuenco, Pichinahuel Hill, Anay Hill and Coimalín.
Nahuelbuta National Park is the only sector of the Mountain range of the Coast where there are greater concentrations of araucarias usually located in high mountain range Andes areas , in addition you may also find lenga, mañío of long leaf, oak and coigüe. The fauna of Nahuelbuta National Park is formed by foxes chilotes, pudú, churrín, chucao, quique and black carpenter which is now an endangered species, among others.
The climate in the sector of Nahuelbuta National Park is tempered warm with 6 months of rain. The summer is dry and warm and from June to September the snow storm appears. The annual temperature is of 13º C. Nahuelbuta National Park counts with excursion footpaths like the Stone of the Eagle, Hill Anay, the Arbol or Repu Aliwen.
Access:
It is possible to arrive at Nahuelbuta National Park from Temuco to Angol and vice versa in the Bus Terminal of Bío Bío located in Lautaro Street #853 with 22 dayly departures from Monday to Saturday and 16 the Sundays.
It is also possible to accede to the park through three points. From the Angol city by the White Fertile valleys road are 22,99 miles by debris road, the first 13,67 miles, the rest corresponds to debris road. It is possible to transit by this road during spring and summer, because the rest of the year is only appropriate for traction vehicles. The second alternative is from the city of Cañete, in the sector of the Bío-Bío, to the north ahead. It correspond to 29,83 miles of trip by the Cayucupil valley, road to the Chacay ranch. Finally, the third via also it is possible to be taken from Antihuala, Province of Araucanía, are 37,28 miles of debris road.
The National Park Nahuelbuta has 18,64 miles of vehicular road and 9,32 miles of footpaths, in addition has camping areas . Also there are two footpaths auto-guided, implemented with informative panels. The domestic animals are prohibited and fire, only the use of gas cooker is allowed.

Pehuenco

Araucaria, located in Nahuelbuta National Park, South of Chile
The area of camping of Nahuelbuta National Park is in Pehuenco, located immediate to the administration and counts on 10 sites with table, banks, rustic furnaces, water, laundries, and baths. Is 26,10 miles from Angol and 36,04 miles from Cañete. Open to visitors all the year. The area has a footpath of natural interpretation, denominated “the Tree” or “Repu- Aliwen”.
Coimallín
It is on the footpath ways of 2,49 miles to Anay Hill, 1.279,53 feet of altitude, with high value in the recreational, scientific and contemplative sense, with interior Vista of the National Park Nahuelbuta, the surrounding valley and the summits of the Andes.It is placed 3,11 miles from the administration area of Nahuelbuta National Park.

Stone the Eagle
It is acceded, by foot from the locality of Pehuenco, by two footpaths to the rocky rock with viewpoint, located in the watershed of the mountain range, to 4.524,28 feet of height. It will be able to appreciate a great Vista of the wide of Chile, from the Pacific Ocean to volcanos of the Andes.
Anay Hill
Sector of 3,11 miles of extension. It is apt for all kind of public. In the passage beautiful places can be discovered.
The Arbol (tree) or Repu Aliwen
Ideal to be visited that by people of all ages.
Marsh Cabería or Pehuenco
Special for children since it is very educative. There is a unit of millenarian araucaria. The passage starting in Pehuenco and follows by the Picoiquén River side.
The administration of the area is in the sector of Pehuenco to 26,10 miles of Angol. The activities are interrupted during the autumn-winter period, due to the climatic conditions. The schedules attentions to the visitor are from 8am to 13 and of 14 to 20 hours. In addition, is Cotico placed 7,46 miles from the administration.

Cañete
The name “Cañete” identifies so much to the city as the commune belongs to the province of Arauco which as well composes the Bio-Bio region. Manifold activities in the zone are distinguishing the main ones derive from the timber ,farming and tourism industries. Because Cañeta is one of the ancestral land of Mapuches, we may find its tradition and culture in the local artistic and cultural expresion represented byt its descendants still living in the zone.
The Cañete history is one of the older histories of our country, we said already that is one of the first cities that the conquerors found, was founded by Don Garcia Hurtado de Mendoza in the summer of 1557-1558, after successive re-foundations and destructions from the original inhabitants of this land, mapuches, is founded on its present location in 1868 by Cornelio Saavedra.
But the place in which today the commune of Cañete is located has a previous history even, to the first foundation, is the mythical Tucapel Fort, that in its surroundings the first “conqueror” of Chile dies.
Tucapel Fort
The Tucapel Fort is one of the first Spanish settlements in the conquest, founded by Pedro de Valdivia in 1552, cradle in great part of the deed of Arauco who Ercilla describes in its epic poem the Araucana.
The location of the Tucapel Fort is what today it occupies the city of Cañete in the North sector, considered a Historical Monument, great part of its lands today is into the hands of particulars, another part lodges the Municipal Gymnasium and the Local Grammar school.
The Tucapel Fort was the scenary of multiple battles between Spanish military and Araucanos, reconstructed several times due the continuous indigenous attacks was destroyed at last and spanish retrieved toward northern lands..
Efforts in the last years have allowed reconstructing some vestiges with construction that emulate what it would have been at different times.
Without a doubt, it constitutes the main historical center of the commune, that lodges a beautiful landscape in front of the valley of the river that takes its name, only and dumb witness who keeps the important passages of national history.
Lanalhue Lake
(Lost Soul)
The Lanalhue Lake is placed 6,21 miles south from the Cañete and about 4,35 miles North from Contulmo town, great part of the highway between these localities surrounds the shore by this beautiful Lanalhue Lake.
In the last years innumerable tourist cabins of diverse characteristics, oriented to the familiar rest or greater groups, many with great comforts and good service to the tourists have been settled here.
Lleu-Lleu Lake
The Lleu Lleu lake , that in mapuche voice means to melt or to crumble, is located to 39,37 feet above the sea level and 8,70 miles to the southwest of Contulmo. It has a surface of 10,63 acres. The Lleu-Lleu Lake is located on the mountain range of Nahuelbuta, to this solitary lake of steep edge, is considerer the purest lake of Latin America, its waters are calm and is communicated with the sea.
Next to the bridge on the river that drains it there is a small port with boats that offer circuits by the four arms of this spectacular lake that is between hills, cliffs and solitary beaches surrounded by native forest. Its four arms go into small valleys, flooded in winter. It is a place privileged by its natural beauties. In addition, different to the Lanalhue Lake, the tourism intervention is less.
Between the most important attractive of the place are the Sector Port Shock, Lolcura, Huillinco and birth of the Lleu Lleu River. The lake is apt to make nautical sports and sail in boat. There are abundance of fishing sites, where it is common to find trout, salmon and pejerrey. Counts with infrastructure like cabins and camping.
Tirúa
(Reborn)
The commune of Tirúa is located in the South end of the Province of Arauco, has a population of 9,664 inhabitants which in great majority are mapuches.
Through Tirúa used to pass the only authorized road by mapuches, between Concepción and Valdivia, from XVII century to aims of XIX century.
Quidico
Quidico is the resort of the area and the favorite of Cañete locals. Only 37,28 miles towards the south and coast that takes no more that 45 minutes thanks to the good road conditions.
Quidico belongs to the commune of Tirúa that is 9,32 miles to the south, is a town, rivulet and tourist place with an ample and safe beach to cross and to bathe when there are days without wind.
Quidico offers good distraction alternative, seafood of good level can be found in the local restaurants which work on an extended schedule, which is not possible to find in any other locality of the province.
Good cabins lodging and a hotel of good level are found in Quidico.
Nahuelbuta National Park schedule and availability:
Visits can be made every day, from November to April from 8:30 to 21 hours and from May to October from 8:30 to 18 hours.
