Great Seafood in Chile
Chile has a long coastal line through all its long territory, you can’t miss the seafood while you are in a travel to Chile, here are the best tips.
Con Con, in the coast near Viña del Mar, it is crowded of little seafood restaurants placed on the hills and well hidden from outsiders, but now you know, ask for tips to the cab drivers, they know the best spots in the area.
In Santiago Chile, you can find great seafood restaurants at the Mercado Central, located downtown Santiago near the Puente Cal y Canto subway station, the Mercado is a great place where you can find typical Chilean seafood dishes as Pescado Frito (fried fish), Mariscal (Seafood Soup Mix), Curanto en Olla (Seafood boiled and served with bread). One of the restaurants at this typical culinary point is “Don Arturo” meeting point for ambassadors, committee and celebrities.
In Zapallar, one of the cities in the central zone of Chile, located in the Fifth region (Región de Valparaíso) is located the “Chiringuito”, attended by its owners, this restaurants is political elite and famous VIP favorite seafood spot.
If you are looking for less touristic places to eat seafood and you are in the coastal area, you can always go to “La Caleta” which is not a restaurant but the name used to call the place where the fishermen deliver their products and sell them to the public, in every city located near the sea there is a caleta, you can purchase the lemons right there and enjoy your fresh seafood. Be cautious because there are some seasons where there are poisonous waters, you can avoid the risk just eating the seafood deep boiled.
