Snowboarding in Chile

I have been to some cool places in my time, and done some crazy things, and one of the trips that sticks out the most in my mind was my skiing and snowboarding trip to the Chilean Andes. Portillo, close to the border of Chile and Argentina was our base for this event, and we could tell right away as we set out for the runs that it would be great. The weather was perfect, and actually really warm. The freedom of not having to be bundled down with layers and layers of clothing like in many mountain areas was great for freedom of movement. Other than the ski teams from Canada and the U.S which were there training, the runs were pretty empty.

The views were the greatest thing about the trip though. I caught myself just stopping and staring on numerous occasions, which I don’t do too often. Normally I want to pack in as much snowboarding as I can. The hills were challenging and steep in many places and I had one particularly silly wipeout, which send me sliding down the hill a good ways on my butt, unable to stop on the steep slope. I got a nice rain of snow in my face, pants, jacket, and boots for that one. Other than that though, we had a tremendous time, and would encourage any skiing or snowboarding lovers to pay it a visit.
